Desktops

Desktops allow users to login to SDL Contenta. Roles and permissions are associated with desktops that dictate permissions users have to data in the database.

In a new database, only the SysAdmin desktops exists. The SysAdmin must create a desktop for each user that needs to log in to Contenta. Desktops are graphically represented in your object hierarchy with the same icon. They differ, however, by color and object label.

SysAdmin desktop

The SysAdmin desktop is created when the database is created. It is the only object shown in the Contenta user interface when a new database is created. Therefore, the SysAdmin is the only user who can log in to a new database.

ProjMan desktop

The SysAdmin controls and decides what the ProjMan needs access to and places it on the ProjMan’s desktop.

  • The ProjMan needs read-write access to the data in the configuration so he or she can create and populate projects.
  • The ProjMan desktop must contain a copy of the configuration so he or she can access the data and create the projects and manage the work.

User desktop

The user desktop (called default) is typically assigned to a team member who has a role of writer, editor, or reviewer, and includes the objects and data to which the user is assigned to create or modify. The user cannot see anything that is not directly on his or her desktop, unless it is in a configuration.

For example, if the configuration is not placed on the user's desktop, he or she has no access to the objects or data in the configuration object. When a project is forwarded to his or her desktop or inbox then the user has access to the data in the project.
