Testing the Contenta database

This must be done on a Contenta Client (a workstation that has been installed with the Contenta Client software).

Procedure

  1. Execute Contenta Explorer from the Start menu, or from the desktop shortcut icon (if available).
  2. Click Options to specify the information needed to successfully connect to the server and database—enter the following information:
    • Contenta Server Node: enter the Contenta Server name.
    • Socket number: enter the PcmPortal running on the server—refer to where dbname is the (user-defined) name of the Contenta database and SID is the Oracle system identifier as added in the tnsnames.ora file.

    • Encaps Directory: Contenta_home/encaps
    • Temp Directory: Contenta_home/tmp
    • Log File: Contenta_home/logs

      where Contenta_home is the path where the Contenta Client software is installed.

  3. Optionally, click View Debug File if you want to display log file information in Contenta Explorer.
  4. Optionally, check Save As Default Login Options to save these settings as your default login options.
  5. Click OK to return to the Contenta Login window.
  6. In the Login window, enter the login name sysadmin and the sysadmin password (the default password for sysadmin in a new database is manager), and then click OK.

    Contenta Explorer appears with a single desktop for sysadmin.

  7. Create a Contenta object on the sysadmin desktop:
    1. Click the sysadmin desktop.
    2. Click File > New Object > Configuration.
    3. Enter a name for the configuration, and then click OK.
  8. Create a user desktop:
    1. Click the sysadmin desktop.
    2. Click File > New Desktop > Default.
    3. Enter the following information in the fields as described:
      Field:Enter:
      NameThe name you want displayed in Contenta application for the desktop.
      LoginContenta login name for the user.
      PasswordEnter the user’s password.
      Ver PasswordEnter the password again to verify that it was entered correctly.
      RolesOptional; you do not have to complete this field for testing purposes at this time.
      Access Level Optional; you do not have to complete this field for testing purposes at this time.
      User InfoOptional; you do not have to complete this field for testing purposes at this time.
    4. Click OK.
  9. Test that you can successfully execute the Dynamic Import tool.
    1. Click the Configuration object in the left pane.
    2. Click Tools > Dynamic Import.
    3. Click File > Quit .
      If you are prompted to save changes, click No.
  10. In Contenta Explorer, click File > Exit.
  11. Click Yes to confirm and exit the Contenta Explorer application.
