Top navigation displays the Structure Groups contained inside the root Structure Group of your Web site Publication. Left navigation displays all sibling Structure Group and Pages to the current Page. Add Structure Groups to your Web site Publication to define top and left navigation, using the specified naming convention.
About this task
-
Top Navigation
-
Top navigation links to all top-level Structure Groups whose name starts with a number, in alphabetical order.
-
A naming convention is used to display or hide Pages in the navigation. To display Pages in the navigation, Structure Groups and Pages need to use a numeric prefix consisting of 3 numbers. For example, 200 Portugal is displayed; Search Results is not displayed. If the prefix is omitted, the item is not displayed in the navigation (except in the breadcrumb). Furthermore:
- Only Pages published to the current target are included in the navigation
- Pages prefixed with a underscore
_ are not visible in the navigation structure. For example, _system is NOT displayed.
-
Use the numeric prefix to order sections using the numeric prefix: lower numbers appear before higher ones. For example, 200 Portugal is displayed before 300 Sweden.
-
Left Navigation
-
Similar to top navigation, left navigation shows links to all sibling Pages and Structure Groups of the Page being displayed whose name starts with a number, in alphabetical order. The current page is highlighted on the left navigation.
Procedure
- Access the Content Manager Explorer Web site.
- Expand the 400 Example Site Publication.
- Add or remove top navigation—in the Home Structure Group, create or rename Structure Groups. For example:
- 030 Business
- 040 Tech
- 050 Science
- 060 Culture
- Add or remove left navigation: in a top navigation Structure Group, add Structure Groups. For example:
- 030 Business
- 040 Tech
- 050 Science
- 060 Culture
- 010 Arts
- 020 Film
- 030 Literature
- Create an Index Page:
Links to a Structure Group in the navigation link to the Structure Group path, without a page name, therefore redirecting to the default configured page. The default page used on the standard implementation is index.html. You must include an index.html Index Page in each Structure Group.
- Publish the changes:
- Publish new or modified Pages and Structure Groups.
- Expand the 400 Example site Publication.
- Navigate to the Home Structure Group.
- Republish the _Navigation Page.
