Step 4: Start up the ETS translation servers

When you start up the SDL ETS translation servers you enable the resources which are used during the actual translation process.

About this task

Once the installation of the ETS application and the ETS language pairs are done, you need to start up the ETS translation servers. The translation features of ETS require at least one running Q-server and one running T-server. Make sure that the host machine running the ETS application with any T-server(s) has a valid license for the ETS language pairs it is serving.

Procedure

  1. Launch the Web GUI.
  2. Log in using an ETS administrator account.
  3. Navigate to Manage > Hosts.
  4. In the upper right-hand corner, select Edit.
  5. In the upper right-hand corner, select Add.
  6. Enter the host machine name.
  7. Select Add.
If a valid hostname and port number are entered, then a new row will be added to the list of Hosts with the hostname and port specified. A list of all the installed language pairs on that host will be automatically listed under the Language Pairs column. A grayed and crossed-out language pair indicates that it is not licensed on that host.
  8. Click on Add under the Q-Servers column and in the row of the Host you are adding a Q-server to.
  9. Enter an available port.
  10. Select Add.
If a valid port number is provided, then a new row is added to the Q-Servers column of that host with the port specified.
  11. Click on Add that is in the row of the host you are adding a T-server to and within the T-Servers column.
  12. Enter an available port.
  13. Select source and target languages under Language Pair.
  14. Select Add.
If a valid port number is provided, then a new row is added to the T-Servers column of that host with the port specified.
  15. Repeat steps 11-14 for each additional language pair you wish to enable translation.
  16. Select Done Editing.
  17. Click on the play icons, under the Q-Servers and T-Servers columns, to start the servers.
The server status icon adjacent to each server changes from stopped to running upon successful start-up of each server.

Results

Upon successful start of at least one Q-server and one T-server, the ETS translation features are enabled.
