Re-indexing Content for Searches

Content is automatically indexed for searching upon upload and when a publication is prepared. However, when you add new categories, change existing search categories, or change the lists of binary formats that are indexed, you must manually reindex for those changes to appear in a search.

About this task

In addition to XML files, you can indicate certain file types (currently PDF, DOC, DOCX) to be indexed so that they can be searched and returned to users in the search results.

Binary files that were uploaded before Content Delivery 5.1 will not be indexed by default and must be manually re-indexed.

Procedure

  1. If you are in a Content Delivery tool, click Home in the breadcrumb trail.
The Content Delivery landing page appears.
  2. In the Administration Tools pane, click Manage Application.
    The Manage Application page appears.
  3. To specify which binary formats can be indexed, do the following:
    1. In the left pane, click Global Config.
    2. In the index.binary.formats list box, click (CTRL-click to select multiple formats) the file type that you want to be indexed and searchable.
    3. Click Save.
  4. In the left pane, click Search Categories.
  5. Click Reindex.
