Popular search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing let you request your site to be indexed, and provide tools that let you view reports about your publication's visibility and indexing by the search engine. When you register with these tools, you submit a site map that lists all the documents within your site, and they may have a verification step that requires you to put a particular HTML file on your site.
Procedure
- Register the sitemap URL with the tool.
The site map URL for SDL Knowledge Center is http://contentdelivery.lc.example.com/sitemap.xml (where lc refers to an example related to Content Delivery, and contentdelivery specifies it further as a delivery server).
- If the search engine tool gives you a file for verification, put it in the location provided by the search engine instructions.
- In a third-party web application installation, you may need to put the file in the ContentDelivery_home folder.
- In a bundled web application installation, you may need to put the file in the ContentDelivery_home/webapp/ folder.
- After a few days, check back in your account to see if they responded with results indicating they successfully indexed your site links.
For instance, the log may show that they found the documents, but did not index them due to "Invalid date format" errors. After fixing any errors, resubmit the sitemap.
