Adding maps to the publication

Maps are the higher level of your publication organization.

About this task

You can add maps to your publication from Publication Manager by accessing the Repository and either selecting an existing map or creating a new one. This task describes how to create a new one in the course of the insertion using the Add Within method, creating a new map and inserting it. Add Within will insert an object at one level below the object you select as entry point. If the destination object contains a list, the inserted object will come at the end of the list.

In this procedure, object means map or topic. In Knowledge Center, maps, topics, illustrations, publications, resources are all objects.

Procedure

  1. Choose where you will insert your map in the left-hand pane of Publication Manager.
  2. Check out the map you will work in: Right-click that map's name and select Check Out from the menu.
  3. Right-click the topic inside which you intend to insert the new map and select Add Within > Topic Ref from the menu.
  4. Select Browse.
  5. Navigate in the Repository to the map folder you want to store the new map in.
  6. Select the New button (the green "+") in the top menu of the right pane.
  7. Select the Map template (bookmap is specifically used for PDF output).
  8. Select Next.

  9. Enter a name for the map in the Title field. Optionally, you can add some text to describe the map in the Description field.
  10. Select Insert in the bottom right corner of the Repository navigation dialog.
  11. Select OK in the browse dialog. Your map is now inserted at the bottom of the list of objects under the topic or map where you have added the new map.
  12. Check in the map where changes have been made by right-clicking on the map's name in the Publication Manager left-hand pane and selecting Check In. Close the workflow dialog that pops open by clicking OK.
  13. Save the publication by clicking on the Save icon in the top left tool bar.
