Adding topics to the publication

Topics are the smaller building blocks of your publication.

About this task

You can add topics to your publication from Publication Manager by accessing the Repository and either selecting an existing topic or creating a new one. This task describes how to create a new one in the course of the insertion using the Insert Before method, creating a new topic and inserting it. Insert Before will insert an object at the same level as the object you select as entry point. The inserted object will come on top of the destination object.

In this procedure, object means map or topic. In Knowledge Center, maps, topics, illustrations, publications, resources are all objects.

Procedure

  1. Choose where you will insert your topic in the left-hand pane of Publication Manager.
  2. Check out the map you will work in: Right-click that map's name and select Check Out from the menu.
  3. Right-click the object before which you intend to insert the new topic and select Insert Before > Topic Ref from the menu.
  4. Select Browse.
  5. Navigate in the Repository to the Topic folder you want to store the new topic in.
  6. Select the New button (the green "+") in the top menu of the right pane.
  7. Select the Task template.
  8. Select Next.

  9. Enter a name for the topic in the Title field. Optionally, you can add some text to describe the topic in the Description field.
  10. Select Insert in the bottom right corner of the Repository navigation dialog.
  11. Select OK in the browse dialog. Your topic is now inserted right above of the object selected as entry point.
