Commenting overview

In SDL Knowledge Center, a comment is an annotation added to a topic. Reviewers can add comments to communicate errors, updates, enhancements, suggestions, and other useful information about the topic to content authors. This is part of the activity referred to as Collaborative Review.

While reading a topic in a publication, a reviewer can add comments to the topic (a topic-level comment) or for text, graphics, or multimedia objects within that topic (an inline comment). Inline comments can apply to characters, phrases, or words and can span block-level content, such as paragraphs, lists, graphics, and multimedia—that is, any content that the reviewer selects.

By default, comments that appear in the Comments pane of the topic you are in will be visible only for the publication that you are currently commenting. Initially, the Comments pane is not visible on iPad. An administrator can change the application's skin to configure commenting behavior so that comments made on the topic appear in all publications that include this topic.

While working in Publication Manager, content authors can reply to comments made by reviewers or enter comments themselves. Authors and Reviewers can perform many other commenting tasks in the tabular view (see Comments).

Comments are stored with the topic and are recorded in the audit trail (click Collaborative Review > Manage Application).
