Editing a resource from the repository

You can edit a published topic or map directly from the Content Manager web client as long as it doesn't have a "Released" status.

Before you begin

You must be logged on and have editing permission in the Content Manager web client.

About this task

Resources in the repository can be edited directly. Editing a topic or map requires that you check it out, preventing other users from editing it. Once you finish editing the resource and save, the editor closes and the topic or map is checked into the repository.

Procedure

  1. From the Content Delivery landing page, click Content Manager.
  2. Click the Repository pane, and click the appropriate folder under the publication in which you want to work.
  3. In the Objects column in the top pane, click a topic or map.
    The bottom pane appears.
  4. In the bottom pane, click the check box located to the right of the topic or map.
  5. Click Check Out
Additionally, the topic may be locked because it is checked out by someone else.
  6. Make the necessary edits.
See the Content Editor User Guide for information on editing content.
  7. Do one of the following:
Click this icon ...To perform this ...

Save the edits that you have made and continue to make more edits.

Check in the topic or map with the edits that you have made. The editor closes, returning you to the resource.

The topic or map is checked in, creating a new revision in the repository.

Cancel the check out. Any edits that you made to the topic or map since the previous Save are discarded.

Results

The topic or map now contains the most current information. If the content of the <title> element has changed in a topic, the TOC is updated to reflect that change in every publication where the map is used. If a <navtitle> is used in the TOC to override the content of a topic's <title> element, it is reflected in every publication where the map is used.
