Editing the resource you are viewing

You can edit a published topic or map from the Content Delivery landing page during the review period. The review period is specified for the publication in the Content Manager web client. Modifications are reflected in the repository.

Before you begin

You must be logged in to the Content Delivery landing page, and have edit permissions in Content Manager.

This procedure assumes a topic is open.

About this task

Editing a resource checks out the topic or map in Content Manager, preventing others users from editing it. Once you finish editing the resource and save, the editor closes, the resource is checked in, and the updated content is displayed in all publications that include that topic or map, and is available for viewing or further editing.

Procedure

  1. With a topic or map open, click Edit in either the topic pane or the TOC pane.
The Loading Editor..., followed by the Loading Topic... or Loading Map... message appears.
  2. Make the necessary edits.
See the Content Editor User Guide for information about editing content.
  3. Do one of the following:
Click this icon ...To perform this ...

Save the edits that you have made and continue to make more edits.

Check in the topic or map with the edits that you have made. The editor closes, returning you to the resource.

The topic or map is checked in, creating a new revision in the repository.

Cancel the check out. Any edits that you made to the topic or map since the previous Save are discarded.

Results

The topic or map now contains the most current information. If the content of the <title> element has changed in a topic, the TOC is updated to reflect that change in every publication where the map is used. If a <navtitle> is used in the TOC to override the content of a topic's <title> element, it will be reflected in every publication where the map is used.
