Generating a translation report

When managing translations, you often need to know how many objects have to be translated, what the word count of the objects is (individually and in total) and how many words remain to be translated after the in-context perfect matching.

About this task

The translation statistics report is available on multiple object types. It makes sense to get a report for the publication object but you can get a report for any object as necessary.

Procedure

  1. In the Content Manager web client, click the Repository tab.
  2. Navigate to, and select the folder containing the object to be translated.
  3. Click on the object to be translated in the right pane.
The lower right pane is populated with the object's versions and if available, other language versions.
  4. Select the version of the object for which you want a report in the lower right pane.
  5. Click the Translation button in the top banner of the lower right pane.
A window opens in which you can activate the translation management functionality, generate a translation statistics report, and release translations for a project.
  6. In the Translation Report pane, select the language for which you want the report.
  7. Select the objects versions to be included in the report.
    OptionDescription
Use baseline information onlyAll version information is taken from the baseline that is associated with this version of the publication. This option is only available on publication objects (not on maps, topics, etc.)
    Use the latest available versions

(if there is no information in the baseline)

If there is no baseline, or the baseline does not contain version information for all objects, include the latest available version of each object. This action does not modify your baseline.
    Use the latest released versions

(if there is no information in the baseline)

If there is no baseline, or the baseline does not contain version information for all objects, include the latest released version of each object. This action does not modify your baseline.
  8. Click OK.

Results

A translation report is generated. The objects that are only available in the source language are listed at the beginning of the report. Then a status count is given of all the objects that exist in the requested translation language.

The details section shows all objects with their individual word count (i.e. the number of words in the source language) and their translation load (i.e. the number of words that have to be translated). The translation load may be smaller than the original word count in the source language because of Content Manager's In-context Perfect Matching.

Within the report you can also move a topic to the next status in the workflow.
