Elements intended to be reused can be kept together in reuse topics and should be identified at the topic and element level for this purpose. Typically, all reuse elements must have the ID attribute specified so the editor knows it is a reuse element.
Procedure
- Check out the reuse topic from the Content Manager repository.
The topic opens in Content Editor.
- On the Home tab on the ribbon toolbar, click the Properties command.
The Properties pane opens to the right of the editor.
- Identify each element you want to mark for reuse by entering a identifier in the ID field.
Valid identifiers should start with letters and cannot contain spaces. A useful identifier name should be meaningful enough to indicate which element in the topic is being identified.
Note: Identifiers must be unique within the topic in which they appear.
- On the Home tab on the ribbon toolbar, click the Finish Editing command.
The target reuse topic is saved and checked in to the Content Manager repository with the identified elements ready to be referenced in other topics.
