Inserting Images

In Content Editor, you can insert images from the Content Manager repository (library) into DITA topics.

About this task

You can insert an image in the structure only where it is valid according to the XML schema.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that the focus (cursor) is in a location where you can insert an image.
  2. Click the Image command on the Insert tab.

A library panel opens to the left of the editing window.

  3. Navigate through the library tree structure to the folder containing the images (graphics) you want to insert.

A list of images with thumbnails becomes available.

  4. You can preview images in a larger display by clicking on the i icon to the right of the image name.

A large preview pane opens with the image.

  5. Click the Insert command from the library panel.

The selected image is now inserted in your topic.

What to do next

You can insert optional alternative text for the image.

  • Click the image and then click the Properties command on the Home tab.

    The Properties panel opens.

  • Under Image, in the Alt property, insert the desired alternative text for the image.

For example, if you added the alternative text "painting of a seaside fishing village" to an image, that text would be displayed whenever the image itself cannot be displayed. Many web browsers display this information as a tooltip for the image, causing the text to appear when you hover over the image.
