Installing the Content Editor license file

After completing the Content Manager installation, install the Content Editor license file (which is obtained from SDL Technical Services) in order for you to gain access to Content Editor.

Content Editor is installed automatically when you install Content Manager. When you set up multiple Content Manager servers, then you need a valid license key for Content Editor on each of your servers.

You must copy the Content Editor license file into the installation directory on the Content Manager Web server. Typically, this location is:

\Web<projectsuffix>\Author\Editors\Xopus\license.

Key features of the license
  • A license key has a fixed number of concurrent or simultaneous users assigned to it, and is in the format of a text file.
  • During installation, the license key(s) need to be placed in the license folder of your Content Editor web application.
  • The license key filename has the following format : {server domain}.txt.
  • Every time you start or close the Content Editor editor, it connects to the SDL license server to verify the license key.
  • The SDL license server registers the number of users but no user information.
  • If for any reason the user's computer cannot reach the SDL license server (user working in a closed network or the SDL license server is down) then the verification step is skipped and Content Editor still works.
  • The connection to the SDL license server has no noticeable impact on performance.
  • Communicating with the SDL license server does not compromise your security since Content Editor does not send any user information nor does it send any of your content.
