Managing objects
You can create, delete, check out, check in, validate, and update properties for an object in the Publication Manager. Some activities can also be done from your authoring tool. These topics describe objects and how to manage them in the Publication Manager.
- Creating new versions or branches of objects
You can create a new version of an existing object, or branch an object. You create a new version after it has been released when you want to include it in a new publication. You create a branch after the object has been released and included in publication but requires modifications, specific for that publication. - Creating a new object from the Publication Manager
Content Manager data is stored in objects in the database. You can create new objects to store new XML data from the Publication Manager, from your authoring tool, or when assembling the map or bookmap. - Checking out an object
Objects that are checked out from the repository can be edited on your local machine. From Publication Manager, you can check out topics that are part of an open publication and edit them in your XML authoring tool or you can check out a map and edit it directly in Publication Manager. You can check out objects from the Publication Manager or from within your editor. This topic describes how to check out from the Publication Manager. - Checking in objects in Publication Manager
An object that is checked out of the repository must be checked in to upload the latest data into the repository and to unlock it (make it available to other users). You can check in objects from the Publication Manager or from within your editor. - Updating object properties
Objects stored in the repository have properties (metadata) associated with it. Some metadata is updated automatically by Content Manager (such as the creation date) and others you can update. - Deleting objects
From the Publication Manager, you can permanently remove unwanted objects or versions of an object from the repository. - Comparing versions
Objects may have a number of changes or modifications that are stored in different versions of the object. You can compare and display the differences between versions to determine what changes were made or, for example, to verify you have the correct version of data at publication time. - Viewing a Where Used report
You can view a Where Used report when you want to track and verify the appropriateness that a modification would make to a topic, image, variable, or condition that is reused in multiple publications and maps. - Validating Conref
You can validate if a conref exists, if the conref topic is available, and whether a version of the reused element is selected for a publication.
