The Content Explorer

The Content explorer interface contains the structure of the publication including (but not limited to) a list of the versions of the objects, their status, and access to a preview of the content. In addition, you can perform tasks from the Publication Manager such as check in, check out, and accessing the repository.

The Content tab provides:
  • A publication tree of the content, including all referenced maps and topics, and any resources used by the publication.
  • A version selection pane that shows the version, status, and other information about any item that is selected in the publication tree.
  • A preview pane that displays a rendering of any item selected in the publication.

The Publication tree

The publication tree represents the structure of the map (or bookmap). You can check out a publication's map and edit it directly in Publication Manager.

The following icons provide information about the object type.

You will find the icons from the object types back in this pane. Next to that icons that provide information about if the object in the baseline view are shown.

The version selection pane

When you click an item in the publication tree on the left, you can view the version history in the version selection pane in the top right pane. A version must be selected for each item in your publication.

The preview

When you click an item in the publication tree on the left, you can view it in the preview pane in the bottom right pane. You can toggle between an HTML preview and an XML preview (plain text).

In XML files, the following specific functionality is available within the preview pane:
  1. Highlighting of conditional text:
    • Green background: the text is included when you publish the publication
    • Red background: the text is excluded when you publish the publication.

You can change which conditions to include or to exclude under the Conditions tab.

  2. Viewing review comments:

If you have an instance of Content Delivery integrated with Content Manager, comments made within Content Delivery (during Collaborative Review activity) are shown in the preview window of the item in the publication tree.

The comments can only be visualized in the HTML preview.

You can setup this reviewing mechanism by creating an output format with the required name Content Delivery.
