The Variables Explorer

The Publication Manager's variables explorer has a table showing all the variable identifiers found in the contents, and the corresponding variable values found in the resources used by the publication. Use this view to identify the variable references that do not have a corresponding value in a resource.

The Variables list view

The Variables list view contains:
  • The unique variable name inside the library containing the variables.
  • The value of the variable that will be used inside the publication. Only visible if it is present in an attached library, otherwise <no value> is displayed.
  • The resource indicating the library in which the value for the variable is defined. Note that you can attach multiple libraries to the same publication.
  • An indication whether the variable is used inside the publication. Unused variables are not relevant in the context of the publication.
  • A message indicating possible problems that might prevent you from freezing the publication.

Validating variables

The colors used to indicate the status of a variable inside the Variables list view are:
  • Blue means that the variable is used and a value is assigned.
  • Red means a problem, the variable is used but there is no value assigned yet.
  • Transparent means that the variable is not used inside the publication.
