Stability and performance improvements

Stability and performance improvements have been made in several areas of functionality for SDL LiveContent Reach 7.0.

Database Backups

We have increased the methods that you can use to back up and restore a database, including support for the eXist Admin Client as a backup and restore tool.

Tomcat Shutdown

The XML database can become corrupted when Tomcat is not properly shut down. The Tomcat shutdown procedure in the documentation has been revised to address this.

Session Timeouts

Prior to SDL LiveContent Reach 7.0, the session time out was set to a very large number (20 hours) to prevent problems with publishing. In SDL LiveContent Reach 7.0, the publish time out is controlled by the pub.session.timeout global configuration item. The Tomcat session time out value in the conf/web.xml file should be used to control the time before a user has to log in again when the web browser is idle.

Additional Stability Improvements

The following stability improvements have been made:
  • Clean up locks

A publication is locked during a publish cycle. When errors are encountered, the publication will be unlocked, in most cases, so the publish can be restarted after the errors are fixed.

  • Tomcat startup upon an upgrade

When installing the Web Application version of SDL LiveContent Reach, there is not enough time allowed between when Tomcat starts and when the setup command is run.

There is now a test that determines whether SDL LiveContent Reach is running by accessing the SDL LiveContent Reach XML database as well as testing to ensure that Tomcat is running.
