Uploading Content from a Web Browser

This procedure describes how to upload content using the SDL LiveContent Reach user interface in a web browser.

Before you begin

Before you upload content, see Guidelines for Uploading Content. You must have created a publication and at least one language version before uploading.

Uploading content from the user interface requires a Flash plug-in. See the SDL LiveContent Reach Platform Requirements for details.

About this task

Follow this procedure to upload resources to a language version within your publication. A resource can be an individual topic (for example, .xml or .dita), graphics files (for example, .jpg, .gif, .png), a map (for example,.ditamap), a filter conditions file used to personalize content (for example, .xml), or other documents (for example, .pdf, .doc, .docx).

When you upload content resources to a language version in a publication, the resources are placed into a holding area. This holding area lets you upload additional resources, overwrite existing resources, delete resources, and view the resources before preparing them and making the publication visible to readers.

Procedure

  1. If you are in a SDL LiveContent Reach tool, click Home in the breadcrumb trail.
The Review and Collaboration landing page appears.
  2. In the Administration Tools pane, click Manage Publications.
    The Manage Publications page appears.
  3. Navigate to the language version under the publication to which you want to upload content.
  4. Click Upload Resources.
  5. Click Select Resources.
You may select up to 500 resources at a time. If you have more resources, repeat steps 4, 5, and 6 to upload all your files, or upload resources using the command-line tool.
  6. In the Select files to upload dialog, select the resources to upload to this language version, then click Open.
  7. Click Upload.
The resources are uploaded to the holding area, and sorted by Documents (individual XML topic files), Media (graphics and other binary files), and TOC (map XML files).
  8. Optionally, to view the log, click Export Upload Log.
  9. Click Configuration.
  10. Select a top-level TOC resource file.
This indicates which file defines the structure of your publication. For DITA, this is the root map. You need to do this only once; subsequent uploads do not require that you perform this step, unless you change the root map.
  11. Optionally, if you use attributes in your content that you want readers to filter on, and have created a filter conditions file, in the Filter Resource drop-down list, select your filter conditions file.
You need to do this only once; subsequent uploads do not require that you perform this step, unless you change the filter conditions file.
  12. Click Save.
