Attaching a file to a data module

Use the Attachments window to attach files of any type to a data module (DM) in your technical manual. Each file you attach links directly to the DM. You can designate an attachment as public to allow all users access to it, or private to restrict access to yourself.

Procedure

  1. In the publication, ensure that a DM is open.
  2. In the Navigation panel, click Attachments.
The Attachments window opens. The left panel of the window displays a list of DMs in the publication that have files attached to them. When the window opens, the DM selected in step 1 is active. If you want to work with a different DM, select it in the left panel to make it active.

The right panel contains information about the active DM, including a list of its attachments if any, and controls for working with them.

  3. Ensure that the name and path to the DM you want to add an attachment to is displayed in the Target field.
  4. Use the Browse button to navigate to the file you want to attach.
The file name of the selected file is displayed next to the button.
  5. Optionally, enter a comment about the attachment in the Comment field.
  6. To make the attachment available to all users, select the Public check box.
  7. Click Attach.
LiveContent S1000D attaches the selected file to the active DM and adds it to the list of the DM's attachments. If this is the first attachment to the DM, an attachment (paper clip) icon is added to the DM.
  8. When you have finished working with attachments, do one of the following.
    • Click Close to close the Attachments window and return to the location in the publication selected before the window was opened.
    • Click GoTo to close the Attachments window and go to the location of the currently selected DM.
