Searching free-form

The free-form (non-categorical) Simple Search command scans your publication for whole words or word fragments that match the term you entered in the Find type-in field. You can also restrict the search to a specific node in the TOC.

Procedure

  1. On the right side of the top bar banner, click the magnifying glass search icon to display the search panel.

In the search panel, enter a search term, whole word or word fragment, in the Find type-in field, and then click the adjacent magnifying glass icon or press Enter.

  2. Alternatively, to restrict the search to a specific branch of the TOC, do the following:
    1. Click a folder or a document in the TOC.
    2. On the right side of the top bar panel, click the magnifying glass to open the search panel.
    3. In the search panel Find field, enter the search term.
    4. Optionally click Filter on TOC selection.
    5. Click the magnifying glass icon in the search panel or press Enter.

Results

Search results are listed on the Search Results tab below the search controls in the search panel, and include the number of hits that match the search parameters that you specified. When you display the TOC in the search panel, the number of search matches display for each section (if this feature is enabled). You can save the search results by clicking Save this Search. You can also click Load a Saved Search to see a list of saved searches, which you can then load and execute. You can display the publication's TOC using the Table of Contents button in the search panel and then redisplay the search results using the Search Results button.
