Adding facets

This task describes how to create or edit a facet. A facet is an attribute that can be used for navigating content; the facet provides the context through which you can view your data. For example, if you create a facet for the attribute football you can view and use content that applies to that attribute.

Before you begin

  • To create and edit facet, you need read and write rights on the Manage navigation page.
  • Add attributes you want to use as facets to the navigation index in the System Manager > Navigation > Navigation index. Attributes included in the navigation index are known as live attributes.

Procedure

  1. Open the Business Manager.
  2. Go to Manage Navigation.

    The Manage facets screen shows a list of defined facets.

  3. Do one of the following:
    • Add a facet promotion by clicking Add facet.
    • Edit an existing facet by clicking the facet name.
  4. Enter Facet details:
    • Name—the name of the facet displayed in the Business Manager.
    • Creator—the name of the user who created the facet (entered automatically).
  5. Specify Facet composition:
    • Select attribute—attribute to be used for the facet. Displays both multi-lingual, and non-multilingual value.
    • Sorted by—defines sort key for the attribute values in the facet: attribute value name alphabetical (name), attribute value name numerical (numerical) or number of items per attribute value (size).
    • Sorting order—defines sort order for the attribute values in the facet, ascending or descending.
    • Min—defines minimum number facet values required for facet to appear.
    • Max—defines maximum number facet values required for facet to appear.
    • Lat off—defines whether the lateral move functionality is applicable for the attribute. Lateral move allows your to directly change previous facet selections without first deselecting earlier choices. Options are: On and Stay (lateral move persists).
    • Show—(for set attributes only) shows remaining values after selection: determines whether remaining set values will be shown or not.
    • Handpick top values—handpicked attribute values that will appear as top values in the facet.
    • Handpick bottom values—handpicked attribute values that will appear as bottom values in the facet.
  6. Click Add to add an additional attribute in a facet.
  7. Select display conditions:
    • Path—provides a condition for the facet to appear based on number of steps in the Web site.
    • Attribute—provides a condition for the facet to appear based on a specific attribute.
    • Minimum coverage—provides a condition for the facet to appear.
    • Location—select a location in the Web site as a display condition.

Results

You have added or edited a facet.
