Defining Contact prefix trigger

Trigger Promotions based on the honorific prefix or title of the Web site visitor.

Before you begin

To use Contact details and Segments as triggers, your system must have Audience Manager, the Ambient Data Framework, and SmartTarget cartridges installed.

About this task

For example, the following is a list of prefixes commonly used in English:

  • Ms
  • Miss
  • Mrs
  • Mr
  • Master
  • Rev (Reverend)
  • Fr (Father)
  • Dr (Doctor)
  • Atty (Attorney)
  • Prof (Professor)

Procedure

  1. In the slide out navigation pane, select Targeting.

    The Targeting Dashboard appears.

  2. In the Source drop-down menu:
    1. Select a Web site for which you want to manage Promotions. For example, you will typically have a "Staging" Web site and a "Live" Web site:
      • Staging is the internal Web site where Experience Manager is set up for inline editing and testing
      • Live is your external, public-facing Web site
    2. Click the Promotions tab to view the list of Promotions available for the Web site.
    A list of Promotions for which you have Manage Promotions rights is displayed.
  3. Open an existing Promotion, or click New to create a Promotion.
  4. Select the Triggers section, then choose the Contact - Prefix trigger from the drop-down menu:
  5. Choose an operator and enter a value (or choose a value from a list of options):
    • is (exact match, case-sensitive)
    • is (ignoring case) (exact match, case-insensitive)
    • matches (enter a regular expression, for example ^[A-Za-z]+ to match only uppercase and lowercase letters)
    • contains
    • starts with
    • ends with
  6. Click Save when you have finished editing.
