Defining Segment triggers

A Segment is an item in Audience Manager that defines a group of users that have one or more shared preferences, interests and/or characteristics. A Segment trigger triggers a Promotion when the Web site visitor belongs to one of the selected Segments.

Before you begin

To use Contact details and Segments as triggers, your system must have Audience Manager, the Ambient Data Framework, and SmartTarget cartridges installed.

Procedure

  1. In the slide out navigation pane, select Targeting.

    The Targeting Dashboard appears.

  2. In the Source drop-down menu:
    1. Select a Web site for which you want to manage Promotions. For example, you will typically have a "Staging" Web site and a "Live" Web site:
      • Staging is the internal Web site where Experience Manager is set up for inline editing and testing
      • Live is your external, public-facing Web site
    2. Click the Promotions tab to view the list of Promotions available for the Web site.
    A list of Promotions for which you have Manage Promotions rights is displayed.
  3. Open an existing Promotion, or click New to create a Promotion.
  4. Select the Triggers section, then choose the Segment trigger from the drop-down menu:
  5. Select which Segments you are targeting with this Promotion.
  6. Click Save when you have finished editing.
