Running the installer (headless install)

You can install SmartTarget on Content Delivery from a command-line interface.

Before you begin

Before running the installer, read Prerequisites for SmartTarget on Content Delivery.

About this task

The SmartTarget installer for Content Delivery:

  • installs and configures SmartTarget on your Content Delivery system
  • on a .NET system, installs SmartTarget JAR files and DLLs you need to install SmartTarget in your Presentation Server
  • on a Java system, installs SmartTarget JAR files you need to install SmartTarget in your Presentation Server

If you are installing SmartTarget on a Presentation Server running on a different machine to Content Delivery, see Installing SmartTarget on Presentation Server.

Procedure

  1. Open a command-line interface.
  2. Access the Content Delivery\data directory.
  3. Run the following command:
    java -jar smarttarget-installer.jar -console
  4. Accept the default installation directory by pressing Enter, or enter a different installation directory and then press Enter.
  5. Choose the Web site technology you use:
    • Type 0 to install Java Server Pages (JSP) then press Enter, or;
    • Type 1 to install Active Server Pages (ASP.NET) then press Enter, or;
    • Type 2 to Copy files (for manual installation) then press Enter.
  6. After choosing your Web site technology, press 1 then Enter to continue.
  7. If you entered 0 or 1, you are prompted to provide the directory where Web site content is published to:
    1. enter the Webapp root path;
    2. press Enter;
    3. press 1;
    4. press Enter again.
  8. If you entered 0 or 1, you are prompted to provide the directory where your cd_deployer_conf.xml file is located:
    1. enter the Deployer config location;
    2. press Enter;
    3. press 1;
    4. press Enter again.
    The installer starts the installation.

Results

You have installed and configured SmartTarget on Content Delivery.

What to do next

Configure smarttarget_conf.xml, by default located in the %TRIDION_HOME%\config folder, to connect to Fredhopper.
