Overview

Read a short overview of the ways to perform reviews in SDL TMS.

SDL TMS is a workflow based system. This means that each translation task goes through a sequence of workflow steps; each step represents a different type of process to be performed on the task. For example, Translation is a workflow step and so is Approval. Each step is assigned to a named individual or to a group of people who share responsibility for performing the work associated with the step.

What do Approvers do?

Approvers review completed translations and either approve them or reject them.

  • Approval means that you accept the translation. Approved tasks go to the project manager who is responsible for producing and distributing the finished translations.
  • Rejection means that there is a problem with the translation that needs to be fixed. Rejected tasks are returned to the people who worked on them.

Approvers cannot edit translations. However, they can add comments to translations explaining why the translation is not acceptable.

This guide describes how to work with your TMS inbox to access tasks sent to you for approval. It also describes how to:

  • Review tasks in SDL TMS.
  • Access the reference material that accompanies tasks.
  • Approve or reject tasks.

What are jobs, tasks and workflows?

In SDL TMS a job is created when a number of files are submitted for translation. Each job has a unique name or ID (a number that identifies the job). The files contained in the job may be translated into several target languages. Each target language version of a file is known as a task.

In addition to the files for translation, a job may also contain reference material. The reference material could contain instructions for translators; it could also be material that will help translators to understand what they are translating and how the finished version should look.
