About phases

When working with SDL Studio GroupShare projects, you can use phases to follow the translation steps through which the project will go. Phases are set for the individual steps in your translation process. These phases can indicate to users the tasks they should perform on the files assigned to them.

At any point in the translation process, every translatable and localizable target file in a GroupShare project resides within one of the four available translation phases:

PhaseDescription
Preparation

The file has just been published to GroupShare/is not ready for translation yet. Usually, the project manager keeps the files in the Preparation phase until the files are ready to be translated.

Translation

The file is ready to be translated or translation work has already started on the document. You can assign files to users in the Translation phase to complete translation tasks.

Review

The file is ready to be reviewed or review work has already started on the document. You can assign files to users in the Review phase to review the translation and approve or reject translated target segments.

Finalization

The translated and reviewed file is ready to be finalized or finalization work has already started on the document. You can assign users files in the Finalization phase to perform tasks like post translation desktop publishing.

You can check the current phase of a file in the File Assignment layout, which is available on the Home tab in the Files view. SDL Trados Studio shows a green bullet next to the current phase of each file in the project. You can also check the current phase for the files from GroupShare, in the Current Phase column in the Files tab.
