About source segment text corrections
You may want to edit the source segments in the document if you have small typos, such as a spelling mistake. You can then choose to update your TM with the corrected information and update the original source document by selecting .
The ability to edit source segments in the Editor view is a setting that you can select in the project settings. You can enable this when you create the project or during the project lifecycle. To edit the source segments from the Editor view, press Alt+F2 . The segment is surrounded by a orange box to indicate that you can edit the segment:
Source editing restrictions
You cannot edit the source text for:
- Project packages for which source editing was disabled
- Locked segments
- Documents containing tracked changes or comments in the source text
- SDL Edit (
*.itd) documents. Studio allows you to edit the source segments in the Editor view but cannot save the changes to the source*.itdtext.
TM and Terminology Lookups and Updates
After you edit a source segment:
- A new lookup with the updated source is performed in the TM and termbase after you leave source editing. You can leave source editing by pressing Alt+F2 or by moving your cursor to the target segment.
- You can confirm the translation in the same way that you could before. If there is no TU in the TM that matches the new updated source then a new TU is created.
Segment status changes
When you edit the source, depending on if you have the document open for review or translation, it may result in different changes to the segment status.
When you have the document open for translation:
- If the segment has a status of Not Translated or Draft, the segment status does not change.
- If the segment has any type of confirmed status, the segment status changes to Draft.
When you have the document open for review:
- If the segment has a status of Not Translated or Draft, the segment status does not change.
- If the segment has any type of confirmed status, the status changes to Translation Rejected.
Duplicate Segment Display Filter
If you are using the duplicate display filter in SDL Trados Studio and edit a source segment, the filter results are not automatically updated. You need to close and reopen the document to refresh the duplicate display filter.
