About translation memory filters

In the Editor view a translation memory filter is a test that is applied to translation memory lookup results. Translations that do not match the filter conditions are either penalized or excluded from the lookup results. For example, if you want to give priority to approved translations, you can penalize translations that do not have the approved status.

Filter penalties

A Filter Penalty is a filter that applies a penalty to non-matching translations. Translation memory matches that do not match the filter conditions are included in lookup results but their percentage match figure is reduced by the amount of the penalty.

For example, if the translation memory segment is an 85% match for a document segment, but it does not match the filter conditions, the match figure will be reduced by the amount of the penalty. In this example, if the penalty is 5%, the lookup result will be presented as an 80% match.

Hard filters

A Hard Filter completely filters out non-matching translation memory results. If a translation memory match does not match the filter conditions, it is completely excluded from the lookup results.
