About using TM and MT providers with AutoSuggest
Extend the AutoSuggest feature in Studio to every kind of match for the current segment, such as TM (translation memory) match, MT (machine translation) match or concordance match.
This enables you to get more control over the translation process as you can choose only appropriate translation fragments from the Translation Results window to apply to the target segment. This workflow reduces the time of post editing an entire segment match. Put the focus on a segment and the source segment is looked up in the translation providers configured with the project. When you start typing matching prefixes AutoSuggest offers matching results from the set provider.
Why use MT matches with AutoSuggest
If you just started working with a small translation memory or termbase, you will find using real-time suggestions from machine translation directly in the Editor very useful. You can choose not to Apply automated translation when no TM match is found (see Options Dialog Box > Editor > Automation), so that you will get matches from the automated translation provider in the Translation Results window but without inserting them into the target segment. You can thus make yourself a general idea of what translation might work for that particular segment. As you start typing and receive fragments of the MT match as suggestions tune it as you type.
If you manage a large translation memory, you can also take advantage of using MT matches with AutoSuggest. For higher quality suggestions you can create AutoSuggest dictionaries based on your TM and set things up so that you also get MT provider suggestion when no other match is found. For example, set AutoSuggest to trigger after typing one character and set the automated translation provider to trigger after typing three characters.
Why use Fuzzy matches with AutoSuggest
To save time post-editing a fuzzy match in the Editor, you can disable to Apply best match after successful lookup (see Options Dialog Box > Editor > Automation), so that you will get matches from the translation memory in the Translation Results window but without inserting them into the target segment. You can then use the same workflow explained above for MT matches.
Why use Concordance matches with AutoSuggest
If you set up concordance matching with AutoSuggest, Studio automatically performs a concordance search when no other matches are found and the target segment is in the Not Translated status. You can review the results in the Concordance Search window and, as you start typing matching prefixes for the concordance result, you get suggestions that you can add directly to your translation.
