Adding new target languages

This topic describes how to add additional languages into which to translate your project files. You can then select translation memories, automated translation providers, termbases and AutoSuggest dictionaries for those languages.

Procedure

  1. Select Home tab > Project Settings from the Ribbon. The Project Settings dialog box for the active project is displayed.
  2. Select Language Pairs from the navigation tree. The list of language pairs that currently exist for the project appear in the navigation tree below Language Pairs.
  3. From the list of target languages in the Available box in the right hand pane, select the target language to be added to the project and click Add.
  4. Continue selecting target languages until the list is complete.
  5. Click OK to save your changes to close the Project Settings dialog box. A Question is displayed.
    • Click Yes to prepare the files for translation. This will convert the files to the *.sdlxliff bilingual format. The Batch Processing wizard is displayed. Go to Step 6.
    • You can choose to click No but you will not be able to translate the files in SDL Trados Studio.
  6. Click Next. The Files page of the wizard is displayed. A list of the project files is displayed. A target language version of each of these files will be created.
  7. Click Next. The Settings page is displayed. Select any additional resources for the target language:
    • Select Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Translation Memory and Automated Translation from the navigation tree to select any translation memories and automated translation servers.
    • Select Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Termbases from the navigation tree to select any termbases.
    • Select [ Source Language Name - Target Language Name ] > AutoSuggest Dictionaries from the navigation tree to select any AutoSuggest dictionaries.
  8. Click Finish to run the selected batch tasks.
  9. Once all tasks are complete, click Close to exit the wizard.

Results

Below the project folder there is now a new folder for each of the new target languages. In these folders are *.sdlxliff files which have been pre-translated and are ready for distributing to translators.
