Batch processing > Pre-translate files

Use the Batch Processing > Pre-translate Files settings to specify the settings control how the translation memories are applied to the project files when you run the Pre-translate batch task. This batch task is performed by default when you create a project.

These settings appear in multiple dialog boxes in SDL Trados Studio.

BoxDescription

Pre-translate Settings

Minimum match value

This is the degree of match that must exist between a source document segment and a segment in the translation memory, in order for the segment-translation in the translation memory to be applied to the document segment.

Translation overwrite mode

These settings determine what happens when you apply translation memory to a segment that already has a translation.

Keep existing translation

The existing translation is retained. Studio ignores any match it finds for the segment in the translation memory.

Overwrite existing translation if better match found

Studio replaces the existing translation only if it finds a better translation in the translation memory. When you use this option, Studio does not replace translations in segments which are set to Translated.

Always overwrite existing translation

The existing translation is always replaced with a translation taken from a translation memory.

Overwrite PerfectMatch translations

When you choose to always overwrite existing translations, you can also enable this to overwrite locked and unlocked PerfectMatch translations.

After applying translations

Confirm 100% matches

When this option is selected, 100% translation memory matches are automatically confirmed.

Lock 100% matches

When this option is selected, if the translation memory match found for the segment is a 100% match , the segment is automatically locked so that it cannot be edited during translation.

Confirm context matches

When this option is selected, if the translation memory match found for the segment is a context match , the segment is automatically confirmed.

Lock context matches

When this option is selected, if the translation memory match found for the segment is a context match , the segment is automatically locked so that it cannot be edited during translation.

Copy source to target if no match found

When this option is selected, if there is no match found in the translation memory for the source segment text in the document, the source text is copied to the target segment.

When no match found

Specify what you want to happen to target segments when no match for the source segment is found in the translation memory. You can choose to:

Leave target segment empty

No text is placed in the target segment.

Copy source to target

The text from the source segment is copied to the target segment.

Apply automated translation

If none of your selected translation memory generates a TM match that meets the Minimum match value, Studio inserts translation results from the machine translation providers listed on the Translation Memory and Automated Translation page.

This option is available only if you already added machine translation providers under Home tab > Project Settings > Language Pairs > [your language pair] > Translation Memory and Automated Translation.
