Batch task sequence descriptions

Four batch task sequences are provided with SDL Trados Studio and these are described in the table below.

In addition to the four provided sequences, you can create new task sequences of your own. You can create task sequences and save them for future use. You can also create ad-hoc task sequences known as Custom sequences.

Task SequenceDescription
Prepare without project TM

This task sequence prepares project files for translation. This task sequence is selected by default when you create a project.

It contains the following tasks:

  • Identify and extract translatable content from project files.
  • Create an *.sdlxliff document for each translatable file and place the translatable content in the *.sdlxliff file.
  • Create a copy of each*.sdlxlifffile in respect of each target language.
  • Analyze files to produce translation statistics.
  • Pre-translate files by applying translation memory to the files.

The Prepare task sequence is made up of the following batch tasks:

  • Convert to Translatable Format
  • Copy to Target Languages
  • Apply PerfectMatch
  • Analyze Files
  • Pre-translate Files
Prepare

This task sequence also prepares project files for translation. The only difference between this task sequence and the Prepare without project TM tasksequence is that a project translation memory is created by this sequence.

This task sequence runs the Populate Project Translation Memories in addition to the other tasks specified above.

See project translation memory for more information.

Analyze OnlyThis task sequence analyzes a group of files and calculates the cost of translating them. You may want to run this task sequence on project files before you create the project. However, this task sequence is only available for selection when you are completing the New Project Wizard .

This sequence contains the following tasks:

  • Identify and extract translatable content from project files.
  • Create an *.sdlxliff document for each translatable file and place the translatable content in the *.sdlxliff file.
  • Create an *.sdlxliff file copy for each target language.
  • Create a project translation memory and populate the project translation memory.
  • Analyze files to produce translation statistics.

This task sequence does not perform pre-translation.

The Analyze Only task sequence is made up of the following batch tasks:

  • Convert to Translatable Format
  • Copy to Target Languages
  • Analyze Files
  • Populate Project Translation Memories
  • Translation Count
Pseudo-translate Round TripThis task sequence simulates translation on a group of files to see how a translated document will look after translation and how much extra engineering work will be required before actual translation is done. This can help in the planning of the project to set appropriate estimates and expectations.

This sequence contains the following tasks:

  • Identify and extract translatable content from project files.
  • Create an *.sdlxliff document for each translatable file and place the translatable content in the *.sdlxliff file.
  • Create an *.sdlxliff file copy for each target language.
  • Simulates translation and copies mock translations to the target segments.
  • Generate mock translated versions of each of the original source files.

The Pseudo-translate Round Trip task sequence is made up of the following batch tasks:

Convert to Translatable Format

Copy to Target Languages

Pseudo-translate

Generate Target Translations

For more information, see About Pseudo-translation.

FinalizeThis task sequence would typically be performed after translation and review. The following tasks are in this sequence:
  • Update Main Translation Memories - This updates the main TM with approved translations.
  • Generate Target Translations - This generates the translated versions of each of the original source files.
