Canceling a Check Out

As an assigned user, you may want to cancel a check out of a file from a SDL Studio GroupShare server-based project if you accidentally checked it out or you decided you wanted to discard the changes you made locally.

Procedure

  1. In the Files view, right-click on the file for which you want to cancel the check out and then select Cancel check out.
  2. If you have made any changes locally, you are asked if you want to overwrite those changes with the latest version on the GroupShare server. Choose to:
    • Keep your local changes and the check out is canceled but the local copy retains the changes you have made.
    • Overwrite your local changes with the latest changes from the server and your local copy will revert back to the version that you had initially downloaded from the server when you checked out the file.

As a Project Manager with the Cancel Checkout permission, you have the ability to cancel someone else's check out. For more information about GroupShare permissions, see the GroupShare Help.

If you cancel someone else's check out and that user had made changes to the file and saved them, the file with the saved changes is kept on the server. This way, the Project Manager can assign the file to another user to continue the work.

SDL Trados Studio does not automatically download the file's latest version for the Project Manager. The Project Manager can get the latest version of the file if they select it and click Get Latest Version on the Home tab.
