Comments window

The Comments window in the Editor view is used to:

  • View comments attached to source and target segments.
  • Add, edit and delete comments attached to target segments.

By default, the window displays all comments of all types for all documents that are currently open. To limit the display to comments of a particular type or for the active document only, use the filter buttons at the top of the window.

The Comments window is always present in the Editor view (unless you close it completely) but it is located behind other Editor view windows. To display the Comments window, click Editor view > View tab > Information group > Comments from the Ribbon.

Edit Comment

Click this to open the Edit Target Comments dialog box where you can edit the comment and add new versions of the comment. You can only edit comments that are attached to target segments.

Delete Comment

Click this to delete the currently selected comment. You can only delete comments that are attached to target segments.

Delete All Target Comments in Active Document

Click this to delete all comments that are attached to target segments in the document.

Errors

Click this to show/hide any comments with the severity level Errors in the list of comments.

Warnings

Click this to show/hide any comments with the severity level Warnings in the list of comments.

Information

Click this to show/hide any comments with the severity level Information in the list of comments.

Show Comments for Active Document Only

Click this to show comments for the active document only and hide any comments that were added for other open documents.

Show Source and Target Comments

Select from the different options in the drop-down list to filter out comments that are attached to source segments or target segments.

Severity

The first column displays an icon that indicates the severity level of the comment. The following icons can appear:

  • : For your information
  • : Error
  • : Warning
S/T

This column displays the an icon that indicates if the comment is attached to a source segment or target segment. The following icons can appear:

  • This comment is attached to a source segment.
  • This comment is attached to a target segment.
Document

This column displays the filename of the *.xliff document that this comment has been added for.

Scope

This column displays the scope of the comment. The scope of the comment is the part of the file the comment applies to. The scope of a comment can be a:

  • Selection: the comment applies to selected text. The selected text can be within a single segment or can span more than one segment.
  • Segment: the comment applies to a segment.
  • File: the comment applies to the whole document.
Segment

If the comment scope is Segment or Selection, where all the selected text is within one segment, this column displays the segment number the comment was added for.

User

This column displays the name of the user who added the comment.

Date

This column displays the date the comment was added.

Version

This column displays the comment version number.

ID

This column displays the comment ID. This is a sequence number for the comment. The first comment created will have an ID of 1, the second comment created will have an ID of 2 and so on.

Comment

This column displays the comment text.
