Creating a translation memory filter

You can create translation memory filters and then penalize translation memory lookup results which do not match the filter. For example, if the penalty amount is set at 5%, a lookup result that is an 85% match for the document segment but which does not match the filter would have the penalty applied; as a result the match figure would be reduced to 80%. You can also choose to create a filter which excludes any results that do not match the filter. To create a filter that is applied to lookup results:

Procedure

  1. Specify where you want to create a translation memory filter.
  2. Display theTranslation Memory and Automated Translation > Filter settings:
    If...Select

you want to create a filter to apply to the translation memory in the active document,

Language Pairs > [Source Language Name - Target Language Name] > Translation Memory and Automated Translation > Filters from the navigation tree. This filter will also be applied when you open any other files from the project being translated into this target language.

you want to create a filter to apply to the translation memory in the active document and the translation memories for all other target languages in the project,

All Language Pairs > Translation Memory and Automated Translation > Filters from the navigation tree.

The Translation Memory and Automated Translation > Filter settings are displayed on the right.

  3. Click Add to add a new filter. The Filter dialog box is displayed.
  4. If you want translation units that do not match the filter to have an additional penalty applied, specify the size of the penalty in the Penalty box.
  5. Click Add to add a new condition and open the Add Condition dialog box.
  6. Create the condition and click OK to save it and return to the Filter dialog box.
  7. If you want to add another condition to your filter, click:
    • Add to add a new condition below the existing condition.

    • Insert to add a new condition above the existing condition.

  8. If you have added two conditions, you must specify whether both conditions must be satisfied or just one of them:
    • Select And if both must be satisfied.

    • Select Or if only one needs to be satisfied.

  9. If you want to negate a condition (put NOT in front of it) select the Not check box for the condition.
  10. Repeat steps 7-9 if you want to add additional conditions.
  11. Click OK to create and apply your filter.
