Exporting and importing file type settings

You can export the settings of a customized file type to a file. The exported file is given the extension .sdlftsettings. You (or another user) can import the customized settings into another project. You can also import settings that have been saved from Studio 2009 SP3, and (for XML file types) from Studio 2009 SP1 and SP2. These settings files have the extension *.sdlfiletype).

About this task

You can only export customized settings, so modify the settings for the file type. For example, select XML: Any XML from the navigation tree and make a change in any of the settings pages.

Procedure

  1. Access the appropriate dialog box. For more information, see topic Finding the Right File Type Settings.
  2. Select File Types from the navigation tree on the left.
  3. In the pane on the right that has the list of file types, select the name of the file type (not the selection box to the left of the name) to save. For example, click XML: Any XML, and then click Export Settings. Navigate to an appropriate folder and enter an appropriate file name, for example xml_settings, and save the file.
  4. To import these settings, click Import Settings. If the file type name (as given in the settings) is defined in the current settings, the imported settings overwrite the current settings. If the file type does not exist, you will be asked if you want to create a new file type based on the imported settings. Usually you should do so.
