Home tab - Translation Memories View

The Home tab contains the most frequently used commands for working with translation memories in SDL Trados Studio.

The following table describes all the default groups and commands that are displayed on the Home tab in the Translation Memories view:

Project Settings

Click this to display the Project Settings dialog box for the active project.

Configuration

Cut

Click this to cut selected text and put it on the clipboard.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+X

Available only when a translation memory is open.

Clipboard

Copy

Click this to copy selected text to the clipboard.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+C

Available only when a translation memory is open.

Paste

Click this to paste the contents of the clipboard into the segment at the current cursor point.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+V

Available only when a translation memory is open.

Open

Open Translation Memory

Click this to open an existing translation memory.

The translation memory is added to the list of translation memories in the navigation pane, and the contents of the translation memory are displayed in the TM side-by-side editor window.

The translation memory becomes the active translation memory.

Tasks

Open Server-based Translation Memory

Click this to open an existing server-based translation memory using the Open Server-based Translation Memory wizard.

The translation memory is added to the list of translation memories in the navigation pane, and the contents of the translation memory are displayed in the TM side-by-side editor window.

The translation memory becomes the active translation memory.

Open Language Resource Template

Click this to open an existing language resource template.

New

New Translation Memory

Click this to create a new translation memory.

The opening page of the New Translation Memory wizard is displayed.

New Server-based Translation Memory

Click this to create a translation memory on a server.

The opening page of the New Server-based Translation Memory wizard is displayed.

New Language Resource Template

Click this to create a new language resource template.

The New Language Resource Template dialog box is displayed.

Tasks Dialog Box Launcher

Click this to open the Options dialog box on the Translation Memories View page where you can configure how the translation memory units are displayed for editing in the Translation Memories view.

Upgrade Translation Memories

Click this to upgrade your SDL Trados 2007 and SDLX translation memories, so that they can be used in Studio. The Upgrade Translation Memories wizard is displayed.

Tools

Align Documents

Align Single File Pair

Click this to pair one source document to its corresponding target document and generate one single alignment result (*.sdlalign) file.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Shift+M

Align Multiple Files

Click this to align several pairs of files at the same time. This generates an alignment result (*.sdlalign) file from each pair of source and target document.

Studio sends the translation units that result from all the generated alignment result files to the same translation memory.

Open Alignment

Click this to open an alignment result file (*.sdlalign file) for review in the Alignment view. Studio generates *.sdlalign files when you align single or multiple files and you choose to save the alignment result file for later review.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Shift+A

Navigation

Previous Page

Click this to display the previous page of translation units.

Next Page

Click this to display the next page of translation units.

Perform Search

Click this to search the active translation memory.

Translation units that match the search criteria and selected filter in the Search Details window are displayed in the side-by-side editor.

Filters

Save

Click this to save the filter that is currently displayed in the Search Details window.

Unsaved filters are displayed with an asterisk.

Add

Ensure you are viewing the Search Details window, then select this to add a new filter to the list of filters for the active translation memory.

The details for the new filter are displayed in the Search Details window.

Delete

Click this to delete a filter from the active translation memory.

Revert to Save

Click this to undo any changes made to the filter since it was last saved.

If the filter has never been saved, this command has no effect.

Import

Click this to import filters for use with the active translation memory.

The Open Translation Memory Filters dialog box is displayed. Use this to select the required *.sdltm.filters file.

Export

Click this to export the filters that exist for the active translation memory.

You can then import these filters for use in another translation memory.

The Export Filters dialog box is displayed.

Commit Changes

Click this to apply any pending changes to the translation units in the active translation memory .

Save

Mark TU for Deletion

Click this to flag the currently selected translation unit in the TM side-by-side editor window for deletion. When you commit (save) the changes to the translation memory, the flagged translation units are deleted from the translation memory.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+D

Discard TU changes

Click this to discard changes that you are have made but have not committed.

If no translation units (TUs) are selected, this command discards all changes to the translation memory.

If any translation units are selected, this command discards changes to those units only.

Changes that are discarded are:

  • Text changes
  • Assignments of custom field values

Find

Find Next

Click this to find text in the page currently displayed in the active translation memory or in a selection. The Find and Replace dialog box is displayed.

Shortcut commands:

Press Ctrl+F to display the Find and Replace dialog box.

Press F4 to find the next instance of your search text entered in the Find and Replace dialog box during the current session.

Available only if a translation memory is open.

Editing

Find Previous

Click this to find text in the page currently displayed in the active translation memory or in a selection. The Find and Replace dialog box is displayed.

Shortcut commands:

Press Ctrl+F to display the Find and Replace dialog box.

Press Shift+F4 to find a previous instance of your search text entered in the Find and Replace dialog box during the current session.

Available only if a translation memory is open.

Replace

Select this to find and replace text in the active document, the page currently displayed in the active translation memory or in a selection. The Find & Replace dialog box is displayed.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Shift+F

Available only if a translation memory is open.
