How to assign custom field values to a Translation unit

This topic describes how to assign values to a translation unit in a translation memory while you are translating or reviewing a document. This procedure is performed in the Editor view.

About this task

When a translation memory match is found in the document you are translating, it is displayed in the Translation Results window. When a concordance search is performed, the match in the translation memory is displayed in the Concordance Search window. You can assign custom field values to the translation units that are displayed in the Translation Results and Concordance Search windows. For example, if the translation memory contains a field called Usage, you could assign the value, Printed Guides to indicate that this translation should only be used for printed guides as opposed to help.

To assign custom field values to a translation unit:

Procedure

  1. Right-click on the translation unit that you want to assign a custom field to in the Translation Results window or Concordance Search window in the Editor view and select Edit Translation Unit from the shortcut menu. The Edit Translation Unit dialog box is displayed.
  2. Under the Value column in the Custom Fields box, enter text or select an option to assign a value to the translation unit.
  3. Click OK to save your changes and close the Edit Translation Unit dialog box.
