How to view messages

This topic describes how to view messages in the Editor view. Messages are displayed in the Messages window. Any time an error is generated for your document, such as during the verification process, for example, the error is displayed in the Messages window. You can also open the Messages window at any time to view a list of error messages.

  • In the default profile, the window is automatically opened when you open a file. Click the Messages tab in the Editor view to display it.
  • If the window is not open, select View tab > Information group > Messages in the Editor view to display it.

By default, the window shows error messages for the active document only. To see messages that were generated for all open documents, click the Show Messages for Active Document Only button. Click the button again to switch back to showing messages for the active document only.

Error messages can be classed as:

  • Errors
  • Warnings
  • Notes

By default, all severity levels are shown in the Messages window. However, there are toggle buttons for each severity level which allow you to display or hide messages for that severity level. For example, to hide any messages classed as errors, click the Errors button. To display the messages again, click the Errors button again.

If the error message relates to an issue that occurred within your document, you can double-click the error message to jump to that location in your document.
