How to work with Track Changes
- About Track Changes
Use the Track Changes feature to track all changes made to a document. This is useful for a group of translators working on the same document to make revisions or for a reviewer to give feedback on a translation. - Why Tracked Changes in the source are useful
Tracked changes in the original source document are displayed in the source segments when the file is opened for translation in SDL Trados Studio. These tracked changes are read-only and cannot be accepted or rejected in Studio. In addition, if any further changes are made to the source in Studio, these changes cannot be tracked. - Working with a TM and Tracked Changes
When you have tracked changes in your document, performing a lookup in a TM, updating a TM or applying results from a TM work in the following ways: - Performing analysis with Tracked changes
When the Analyze Files, Word Count or Translation Count tasks are run on the files in a project, tracked changes in the source segments are treated as if they are accepted. Lookups in the TM are also based on the accepted tracked changes. - How to Track suggested changes
When track changes is turned on, you can see any changes that you make to the target translated text alongside the original text. This allows your suggestions to be compared to the original text. Your name and the date of the change are also stored along with the text. You can only track changes in the target translated segments. - Accept or reject suggested target Tracked changes
Use the following buttons on the Review tab > Track Changes and TQA group to accept or reject changes in the target segments. You can also right-click on a suggested change and select to accept or reject the suggestion. - How to display Tracked changes details
Further information about a tracked change can be viewed by hovering over the change with the mouse cursor. A tooltip is displayed showing the following information: - Only display segments with Tracked changes
If you are reviewing suggested changes for a large document, you may want to display a filter that only shows segments that have tracked changes. This filter displays tracked changes in the source segments as well as translated target segments. - Change When Track changes is automatically turned on or off
By default, Track Changes is automatically on when you open a document for review or sign-off. However, when applying a translation from the TM, the content inserted into the target segment from the TM is not tracked as a change. - How to show or hide Tracked changes
Viewing your document in Final Mode hides tracked changes from view in the Editor. This mode previews what the text of the document would look like if all suggested changes were accepted. In this mode you might find it easier to double-check spacing and punctuation. If you edit the document in Final Mode, it still tracks your changes without showing the track changes markup. - How to change the formatting used in Track changes
