Importing file type settings from Studio 2009

You can import file type settings from SDL Trados Studio 2009 SP1 and SP2 or file types settings that have been exported from Studio 2009 SP3. Settings for each file type for SP1 and SP2 are held in a file with extension *.sdlfiletype. In SP3, settings for each file type are shared between two files: the definitions for a file type are held in a file with extension *.sdlfiletype (that is, the same format that is used in SP1 and SP2), but the settings for the file type are held in a file with file extension *.sdlftsettings (that is, the same format that is used in Studio 2011 - 2015).

Before you begin

You need the file type settings file or files. For Studio 2009, the settings for a file type are held in a file that has an extension *.sdlfiletype. Find this file. For Studio 2009 SP3, you also need the settings file that is generated when you export the settings from Studio. To get this file, go to File > Options > File Types, and in the File Types pane (where there is a list of file types), click the appropriate file type. Then, click Export Settings. This procedure will create an *.sdlftsettings file for that file type.

Follow these steps

Procedure

  1. Access the appropriate dialog box. For more information, see topic Finding the Right File Type Settings.
  2. Click Import Settings.
  3. Click the drop-down box of settings types and choose Studio 2009 File Type Settings. Find and open the settings file (*.sdlfiletype that you want to import. If the file types were exported from 2009 SP3, you will be prompted for the *.sdlftsettings after the *.sdlfiletype file has been processed.
  4. When prompted, you can specify an existing *.sdlftsettings file. If you don't specify one, the imported file type will not contain some settings (such as parser rules).
