Managing the list of file types

You can modify the list of available file types by re-ordering the list, creating new file types or removing existing file types. You can also export all the file type settings, and import settings that have previously been exported.

About this task

You add a file type by registering a file that contains all the settings for that file type. Before you add a file type to the list of supported file types, the file type must already exist.

Procedure

  1. Access the appropriate dialog box. For more information, see topic Finding the Right File Type Settings.
  2. Select File Types from the navigation tree on the left. The existing file types are listed both in the navigation tree and in the pane on the right.
    • To add a file type, click New. See Creating a File Type for more information about adding a new file type to the list.
    • To add a file type based on an existing configuration file that describes the file type settings, click Import Settings. Navigate to the *.sdlfiletype or the *.sdlftsettings file and click Open.
    • To remove a file type, click Remove. When you remove a file type, SDL Trados Studio no longer recognizes files of this type in projects that you open or create in the future.
  3. Click OK to save your changes and close the dialog box.
