Overview: Searching and filtering the translation memory

You can search and apply filters to the active translation memory from the Search Details window in the Translation Memories view. This is useful if you are performing maintenance on a translation memory because it allows you to quickly locate the translation units that you want to edit. For example, you could run a search for duplicate translation units in order to find and delete the duplicates.

Searching the translation memory

You can run a quick, basic search on the translation memory. This allows you to enter a search string as your source criteria to search the text in the source and target segments of the translation memory. Translation units that match the search criteria are displayed in the TM Side-by-Side Editor window. Search text is entered in the Source Text and Target Text boxes in the Search Details window. Search text is not saved with the associated translation memory. If you want to perform the same search at a later time, you must reenter the search criteria.

Applying a filter to the translation memory

A filter allows you to perform more advanced searches in the translation memory for translation units that match the criteria of your filter. Translation units that match the filter conditions are displayed in the TM Side by Side Editor window. Filters use search criteria based on the field values assigned to the translation units and the text in the source and target segments of a translation unit. For example, you could apply a filter to display only translation units that have a status of new. You can save a filter with the associated translation memory.

Combine Searches and Filtering

Searching the translation memory and applying a filter to the translation memory can be combined. By combining a search and filter you can refine your search results in the TM Side by Side Editor window. This allows you to search based on the text in the translation units and filter based on the field values assigned to the translation units.
