Overview: Auto-Localization

Auto-localization is the process by which SDL Trados Studio automatically adapts the format of dates, times and measurements to suit the target language of your current translation.

These elements are auto-localized when you insert a recognized token from the source segment to the target segment during translation.

If you want auto-localization to occur during pre-translation or when applying matches from the translation memory, you must also enable auto-substitution on the Auto-Substitution page.

Auto-Localization Example

For example, suppose you want to translate the following English (United States) date to German (Germany):

Friday, May 23, 2009

SDL Trados Studio automatically changes the date to the right format.

Freitag, 23. Mai 2009

Auto-Localization Settings

  • Use the Translation Memory Settings dialog box to select options for recognizing dates, times and measurements automatically during translation. Any options you leave unchecked are treated as normal, translatable words.
  • Use the Dates and Times and Measurements pages to specify the format to which dates, times and measurements are auto-localized.
