Permissions for checking out a file

You can only check out files from a SDL Studio GroupShare project if you are member of a GroupShare role that has the Check Out My Project Files or the Check Out Any Project Files permission.

  • Check Out My Project Files gives you permissions to check out GroupShare project files only if they are currently in the phase you are assigned to.
  • Check Out Any Project Files gives you permissions to check out any GroupShare project files, regardless of the phase they are currently assigned to.

At any point in the translation process, every translatable and localizable target file in a GroupShare project resides within one of the four translation phases.

As the project advances through the translation process, the project manager changes the translation phase to reflect the current translation phase of the project file.

If you are in a GroupShare role with Check Out My Project Files permissions and the project manager assigned you files in the Review phase, for example, you will only be able to edit the file when it reaches the Review phase. For all other phases, you will be able to open the file in read-only mode. On the other hand, Check Out Any Project Files permission enables you to check out and edit all the GroupShare project files available to you, at any time, regardless of their current phase.

For more information about GroupShare roles and permissions, see the GroupShare Help.
