Reversing language directions

In addition to using TMs where the source or target language does not match the project languages, AnyTM also allows you to work in the reverse language direction. For example, translating a German > English project using English > German TM.

To use a TM in the opposite direction: add the TM using the Add > AnyTM: any file-based TM... menu item. AnyTM will automatically detect if the languages of the TM you have selected are the reverse languages of the project to which you are adding the TM. If this is the case, AnyTM will create an additional TM with the opposite language direction of the selected TM with an .anytmreverse.sdltm extension.

AnyTM keeps the two TMs in sync automatically as you work. Regardless of which language direction you are working in, AnyTM will make sure that the translations you create are added to both TMs. This means you never have to manually go through export/import processes.

Once you have used a TM in the reverse language direction, it is important that you keep adding the TM using the Add > AnyTM: any file-based TM... menu item. If you do not do this, SDL Trados Studio will not use AnyTM and your TMs will get out of sync.

Only translation units are synced automatically between the two TMs. If you for instance add new fields, you need to make sure you do this in both translation memories.

Reversing language directions is only supported for file-based Studio translation memories.
