Reviewing documents in assess quality mode

TQA works similarly to Tracked Changes: it highlights changes, but it also allows the user to add metadata to each change to give specific feedback on the quality. This metadata is captured in TQA configurations.

About this task

Review translations by adding Translation Quality Assessment (TQA) items that use the metrics from the project's TQA configuration.

As you add TQA items to indicate translation issues, SDL Trados Studio adds up the penalty points corresponding to each issue type. If the Pass/Fail threshold is reached, the TQA icon on the status bar changes to a crossed out pen: . This shows that translation does not meet the quality level set in the TQA configuration.

Adding a TQA item

Procedure

  1. Open a project file with a defined TQA configuration for review or sign-off.
  2. On the Review tab, use the Track Changes and TQA split button to choose the Assess Quality review mode. Make sure this button is enabled when you want to add, edit or delete TQA item.
  3. TQA items can be of type replacement, addition, deletion or comment:
    • To add a TQA item of type comment, select the text that contains a translation issue in the target language column and click Add TQA.
    • To add a TQA item of type replacement, addition or deletion, start editing the text in the target language column and TQA items will be highlighted. When you are done with adding TQA items for a segment, click Edit TQA.
  4. Studio displays the Add Quality Assessment Item dialog box and you will need to add details about the TQA item you have just reported:
    • Classify the type of issue that you selected using one of the options in the Category drop-down menu. Studio lists all the options defined as possible issue types in the TQA configuration.
    • Specify the severity of the issue by selecting one of the ratings available in the Severity field. Each severity rating has a corresponding number of penalty points in the TQA configuration. Studio computes the severity score of all TQAs in the document and compares the final result against the limit set in the TQA configuration as the Pass/Fail Threshold.
    • In the Type field, depending on how you reported the item (deleting, adding, replacing or selecting text), you have the possibility to change how you mark your TQA change (as a text deletion, addition, replacement or as a comment). You can change the default text formatting that Studio uses for marking these types of changes from File > Options > Editor > Review > Translation Assessment Formatting.
    • In the Comments box, add more details about the translation issue that you are reporting. This option is only available if the project's TQA configuration allows commenting for the selected category.
    • You can optionally associate the quality assessment item with its corresponding part from the source segment. Doing this can prove to be an important aid for the person that looks over the reviewed content. In the Source segment content text box, select the text that corresponds with the current quality assessment item and click Apply Selection. If you change your mind, you can clear the selection.
  5. You can navigate to another reported TQA item to add details to it without leaving the Add Quality Assessment Item dialog box, by using the Next/Previous buttons. When you navigate away from the current TQA item, Studio saves your changes and attaches the TQA to the selected target text.
  6. When you are done with adding details for all your reported TQA items, click OK to close the Add Quality Assessment Item dialog box.
  7. When you have finished adding TQA items for all the translation issues in your document, click Home tab > Complete Review or Complete Sign-off. Studio shows a dialog box with an overview of all TQAs available in the document. Here you can make an overall evaluation of the document and override the Pass/Fail result that Studio calculated automatically based on the TQA configuration available for your project.

Editing a TQA item

Procedure

  1. Ensure Assess Quality mode is on, right-click on a TQA item and click Edit TQA.
  2. Make the required changes to the TQA item.

Deleting a TQA item

Procedure

  1. Click on a TQA item.

  2. Click Delete all TQAs.

Reviewing reported TQA items

About this task

You can review the TQA items that you created for a document from the TQAs window in the Editor view or by generating a Translation Quality Assessment report. For files open for review or sign-off, you can also get an overview of the TQA items available in the document when completing the review or sign-off of a document by clicking Complete Review or Complete Sign-off.

Note that the TQA items of type replacement are displayed in the TQAs window as two separate items, one of type deletion and one of type addition.

Returning reviewed documents

About this task

When you finish reviewing the document in Assess Quality mode, return the document to the translator. Translators then open the document for translation to review your TQA items and correct the indicated translation issues.

If the document is part of a GroupShare project, check in your file and assign it back to the translator. If the document is part of a package, create a return package and send it manually to the translator.
