SDL Language Cloud

Connect to SDL Language Cloud from within SDL Trados Studio to access machine translation (MT) engines that generate smart automatic translation results. The Language Cloud MT engines are trained using domain-specific content and can generate translation results that require less post-editing.

Language Cloud services

The Language Cloud integration with Studio gives you access to:

About this task

The Language Cloud integration with Studio gives you access to:
  • Default MT Engines. For each language pair, Language Cloud has a Default MT engine (sometimes also referred to as baseline engines) that you can use for translating general content. For domain-specific translations, connect to specialized MT engines.
  • Specialized Engines. These are industry-specific MT engines that are trained using content specific to a particular domain (e.g. Automotive, Travel or Electronics). Connect to engines to get translation results that better fit the context of your source text.
  • Custom Dictionaries. These are *.tbx or *.xml files containing your own terminology. Dictionaries enhance your MT engines further to create smarter MT suggestions. If you subscribe to a machine translation package that includes dictionaries, you can upload custom dictionaries from your Language Cloud account in order to make them available in Studio. To create Language Cloud dictionaries from SDL MultiTerm (Desktop) termbases, export your termbase data to a TBX (LISA 2002) *.xml file and upload the export file to a Language Cloud dictionary. For information on how to export termbases from MultiTerm, see .

Subscription packages

Subscribe to one of the available Language Cloud packages for monthly access to MT engines. Each Language Cloud package offers access to a different number of characters that you can translate from Studio using your selected Language Cloud engines and dictionaries. For each package, you can create API keys and give access to your resources to multiple users.

Logging In

If you have a Studio license

About this task

Use your SDL Account credentials to log into your Language Cloud account. When you log in for the first time, Studio automatically creates a Language Cloud account for you and assigns a 30 days trial package to it. When your trial expires, you can choose to subscribe to either the free or to one of the paid MT packages.

After logging in, you can manage your Language Cloud services from File > Language Cloud.

If you have a Studio trial

About this task

Create a Language Cloud account and use these credentials to log in to Language Cloud from Studio. After logging in, go to File > Language Cloud and subscribe to one of the available MT packages, or activate the free 30 days trial.

If you have an API Key

About this task

Log in using an API key to access the engines and dictionaries available for a Language Cloud account. API keys are usually created by the project manager to give multiple team members simultaneous access to the same Language Cloud resources. You cannot access information about the Language Cloud account when logging in with an API key.

Switch accounts

To switch the Language Cloud account:

Procedure

  1. Go to File > Options > Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Translation Memory and Automated Translation.
  2. On the Translation Memory and Automated Translation page, click Add and select SDL Language Cloud from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click Switch account.
  4. Enter the new account credentials

Logging out

To log out of your Language Cloud account in Studio, you will have to delete the LanguageCloud.bin file located at X:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SDL, where X is the local drive where your operating system is installed and <username> is the user folder name.
